The End Is Near

The End of Days is definitely coming.  If it wasn't enough that I legitimately agreed with Paul Krugman on something yesterday, today an even scarier indicator has reared its head.  Are you sitting down? I'm just going to throw it out there real quick, like ripping off a bandaid:  I agree with Maxine Waters on something!  The Fannie/Freddie/BankAmerica settlement IS another bad deal for the taxpayers, with a mega-bank as the beneficiary.  For more on why, see Ritholtz here.

Just for sanity's sake, let's get in the time machine and look at some of Congresswoman Waters's greatest hits. First, the "Captains of the Universe."  The part about "fees" around 5:30 is classic.  Ken Lewis gives her an exasperated "I don't know what you're talking about" and Vikram Pandit talks to her like she's a ten year old:

And this one where she tries to talk to Bernanke will make you bang your head on your desk:

Hey KD,

You agree with Maxine on this?

Relax!

You're in good company; so does Tyler Durden at Zero Hedge.

So, it is not a stretch to assume that Maxine got that one right.

More power to her! :-)

nothing to worry about Kid. When Mr Griffey starts talking, then it's time to run out of the house.

Kid, you know what rationalizing is? Remember who Waters represents, a poor district in LA. She is asking the kinds of questions that are on the minds of her constituents. I once saw Eleanor Holmes Norton asking the auto execs the wildest questions, the only explanations for which were that she's an idiot or her constituents are. Someone might say I'm racist, but dumb and angry are not the same as poor and black. Thinking they are, that's racist. Remember, the representatives are representing their citizens, many of whom call their offices with their concerns.

It's easy to make fun of Maxine. You should pick a tougher target. She represents the poorest of the poor. Less than zero in terms or resources, education, health care etc. Good for you that you were luckier in choosing your parents. And you'd like to argue that Ken Lewis et al AREN'T rapacious dickheads? Really? Tell you what. Lets you and I compare 1040's and I will bet you that my sch A charitable contributions are ahead of yours both nominally and as a % of AGI. If not, talk as much smack about Maxine as you wish. If not, stfu.

anon - huh? the fact that Maxine is poor excuses her for being an ignorant idiot and being a representative in the US Congress? you live on a different planet.

she's the PROBLEM, not the solution. perhaps the very definition of the blind leading the blind. ignorant, populist rage, raging with the wrong facts.

if you can point me to my argument here about the "rapacious dickhead" status of Ken Lewis et all, I will continue this conversation with you. else, you are the one who has every right to STFU.

it's early in the year, but your comment is a leading contender for "douchebag comment of the year," as it's obvious that my schedule A contributions have nothing at all to do with 1) this post 2) maxine waters's gross ignorance or 3) Ken Lewis et all

bring your A game next time.

ps - you meant, "If so, STFU" in your last sentence.
