Odds & Ends

- From Benjo via Pauly comes the Angle Shoot of the Year:
"Benjo told me a hilarious story about how Bellagio hookers were trying to cash tournament chips at the cage. Apparently, a couple of horny and angle-shooting poker players removed $1,000 denomination tournament chips out of play. They used those chips to pay off hookers, who were not very bright and accepted the chips in return for sexual favors. Of course they did not read the fine print on the chips where it said it's not legal tender and only a tournament chip. Horny Poker Players 1, Dumb Hookers 0."
- The Bracelet posted a tremendous true story about his visit to the ultrasound technician to get his nutsack wanded. This story is MULTI-sigmas, and made me laugh out loud at least 3 times.
- I liked the parody better, but if you want to watch the actual Shaq rap, you can find it here. I'd embed it on this page, but it's really, really horrible.
- You should continue to check in daily with the boys at WickedChopsPoker for all the daily WSOP action, gossip and behind the scenes rumblings.

Yay Capitalism!

Oh, smashing, groovy, yay capitalism! - Austin Powers
I find it shocking that our capitalist nation, the United States, keeps suggesting decidedly socialist solutions to the rising price of oil, such as interfering in the free markets that set the price, and imposing extra taxes on companies who are making money as the price of oil rises.
On the other hand, communist China comes up with the simple capitalist solution: raise prices to curb demand! What is so hard about that? "Oil prices dropped Thursday morning on reports that China is raising fuel prices, a move that could dampen the booming Asian nation's oil consumption." Associated Press 6/19/08
It troubles me that American leaders trumpet insane blame game theories about speculators being the cause of the rising prices. Oil is a global asset. Speculators do not set prices - free markets set prices. If speculators drive oil up to prices that are out of whack with the natural (supply and demand) equilibrium, the prices will come down. That's a fact - it may take longer than 3 weeks or 3 months - but it will happen - that is, if it's the fault of the speculators, which I do not believe it is.
Instead of blaming oil companies for making money, or speculators for expressing their opinions (that's all speculators do you know - they take a view on a price being too high or too low, and then sell or buy respectively. It's really no different from when anyone trades stock in their own account - we are all SPECULATING that the prices of the stocks we own will go higher), we can do things about it if we don't like the high price of oil. Buy a car that gets better gas mileage. Use public transportation. Car pool. My dad bought a fireplace fan device and a cord of wood - he'll use less heating oil this year because he'll burn wood instead - WE HAVE CHOICES!
Americans need to understand that $2.50 a gallon gasoline is not a birth right we have. Europeans pay over TWICE what we do for a gallon of gas! $8.67 a gallon in England, and $8.90/gal in Germany! If you want government subsidized gas, MOVE TO CHINA! But beware, even the communist Chinese have SENSIBLE capitalist tricks up their sleeve, and if your Hummer uses too much of their cheap fuel, they've shown that they'll take advantage of the most basic capitalist price/demand theories to restore equilibrium.

I can't Help It

Ok, look - I WANT to pretend I'm mature enough not to giggle about this, but, fuck it - I'm not.

I went to CVS today to pick up a prescription, and there was a girl in front of me in line. Now, we've all bought condoms before, it's no big deal, but this girl had two 12 packs of Magnums in her hand, AND, here's the kicker - a bottle of Astroglide.

Now, never mind the fact that I could probably use a Trojan Magnum as a freakin' SLEEPING BAG - the sheer volume of king sized lubricated protection, combined with the need for additional friction-mitigating substance had me calmly pursing my lips.

In poker, we have the concept of multi-level thinking.

Level one: I know what my hand is. I am here to pick up a prescription for some antibiotic cream because I have knerpes - that's knee herpes: it's a simple rash on my knee (note: not really herpes)

Level two: What does my opponent have? Well, she has the tools to make for a very active weekend, with a partner who apparently has a gigantic hammer.

Level three: What does my opponent think that I have? Well, she probably doesn't know I have knerpes, cause she's in front of me in line. And I have no idea what prescription she's picking up.

Level four: What does she think that I think that she has? See, this is the fun one, cause we both know that she knows that I know that she's got two jumbo packs of Magnums and a bottle of Astroglide (thankfully, it appeared to be a normal sized bottle of Astroglide - if she had the pint sized I don't think I'd have been able to stifle a chuckle). She knows she's gonna get seriously slammed this weekend. I KNOW she's going to get seriously slammed this weekend. She knows that I'm judging her, but she may not know that I know the extent of her plans, and she's trying to act nonchalant about it.

No post about lube would be complete without the following video from Superbad:

Mmmmmmm Lesbians

So at least it's not just Americans who launch frivolous lawsuits - the below is from a cnn.com article.
Three islanders from Lesbos told a court Tuesday that gay women insult their home's identity by calling themselves lesbians.

Paul Thymou, who lives on the Greek island Lesbos, protests at a gay group using the word "lesbian" in its title. The plaintiffs -- two women and a man -- are seeking to ban a Greek gay rights group from using the word "lesbian" in its name.

Also known as Mytilini, Lesbos was the home of the ancient poet Sappho, who praised love among women. It is a major travel destination for gay women. The Homosexual and Lesbian Community of Greece "causes confusion by using a geographic term in connection with (the group's) special character and social action," said Dimitris Papadelis, a lawyer representing the plaintiffs.

A spokeswoman for the group accused the plaintiffs of homophobia.

"I believe ... the other party's intentions were purely racist," Evangelia Vlami said. "They showed that what bothers them is a specific sexual orientation."

"What will they do next, sue the United Nations? They, too, use the term lesbian," Vlami said.

Plaintiff Dimitris Lambrou has insisted the lawsuit "is not an aggressive act against gay women."Lawyers from both sides are to submit written arguments on Wednesday, and the court is expected to issue its decision in the next six months.
In other signs of the pending apocalypse, Gennifer Flowers and Paula Jones are offering Internet viewers the lurid details of encounters they claim they had with former President Clinton -- for $1.99 a pop.

The women, who gained notoriety in the early 1990s after claiming to have had sexual encounters with Clinton when he was governor of Arkansas, have created a Web site offering videos of their thoughts on Clinton, his wife Hillary and other matters. Each video segment is available for $1.99.
Hey ladies - Hillary is out. No one gives a shit. I tried to find the website, but gave up after 5 minutes, since, hey - I DON'T GIVE A SHIT! In the words of Jack Nicholson's Colonel Jessup from A Few Good Men, "I'm a fair guy, but this fucking heat is making me absolutely crazy." I feel the need to quote that whenever the temperature soars to inhuman levels here in New York - 96 degrees in NYC yesterday!

These Are My Friends

I'm back in Boston for my 10 year college reunion. Walking around town today, I walked right into Kobe Bryant, being trailed by a video camera and an assortment of local Murphs and Sullys harassing him to sign stuff, which Kobe appeared to be politely refusing. I texted several of my friends: "Just walked by Kobe on the street" and within minutes got the following replies:

Big Show: "U punch him in the junk?"
Dan: "Punch him in the balls"
Jeff: "Kick him in the nuts for me"

Gotta hand it to Boston fans on their never ending desire to punch the opposing team's superstar in the junk.

Although my fanaticism for the Celtics waned in the wake of Larry Legend's retirement, I still get psyched for this finals match up with the Lakers. When I was growing up in the 80's, either the Celtics or the Lakers (and sometimes both) made the finals EVERY year in the 1980s. EVERY year. Also, in the 1960's, Bill Russell's Celtics annually pummeled the Lakers in the Finals. I guess every 20 years we get to re-enact this classic clash of NBA titans.

BEAT L.A.!

Sit Yo Ass Down!

In case you missed this from Celts-Cavs game 4: Paul Pierce wrapped up Lebron James and they spilled into the crowd, where, yes it's true, Lebron's MOM got involved, tangling a little with Kevin Garnett.

Lebron can be clearly seen yelling at his mom: "Sit yo ass DOWN!" And just a day after Mother's Day to boot!

Poor Bron Bron - one of the top atheletes in the world, and he STILL can't keep his momma out of his bid-ness.

Laddy Dahhddy We Likes to Pahhtay

I woke up for the second time this morning with Oscar licking my face.

"Hey monkey," I groaned, as I tried to figure out what the fuck happened to me last night... wait... Monkey.... Everybody's got something to hide except for me and my monkey! I saw Trey play that last night at the Jammys!!! Rewind...

I was invited to the Jammys last night - a JamBand awards show, where there are a lot of collaborative live performances between stars of the jamband genre, and in general, very good music. This show was special, because Phish, supreme rulers Jamband Land, were supposed to reunite after a multi-year layoff.

Although I was pretty hammered, I have very vivid recollections of several pieces of the evening, which I will try to recount for you in staccato form. For more cohesive, orderly recounts, do not miss this sardonic recap of the event, or this thorough and accurate setlist.

We were on the floor right in front of the stage, and I texted Dr. Pauly: "I am at the Jammys!!" The show got started right on time with Warren Haynes and some girl, who I'd later discover was Grace Potter, ripping through 3 songs, including Fleetwood Mac's Gold Dust Woman. Potter can really wail, and later showed she could hammer on the keyboard as well.

A band I don't know called Rose Hill Drive came out, with a lead singer who was a dead ringer for a slightly pussed down version of Bo Bice. They were joined onstage by Matisyahu, the epitome of six sigmas in the music world. Matisyahu is an orthodox Jew who raps reggae - one of a kind. He left the stage and Leslie West joined Rose Hill Drive, lending his old school guitar licks and even older school vintage voice to a song I didn't know. Then West made some comment about having the game RockBand back stage, and shouted "Hit the cow bell." The combination of the cow bell and the signature opening riff of Mississippi Queen caused my drunken body to convulse in an involuntary standing fetal clench, and wail on my Bud Light bottle playing air guitar. I hit Pauly with another text, "You are uniquely positioned to appreciate this show."

Keller Williams is a talented one man band, but this time he was joined on stage by Chevy Chase - yes - THAT Chevy Chase - Fletch, who played piano while duet-ing with Keller on a comedic "You Make Me Feel Like a Natural Wooooooooooooman." Then Chevy played jazz piano as Keller sang a muzak-lounge-lizard inspired version of Sweet Home Alabama, drifting into "Take the Money and Run," and then back to Sweet Home Alabama, almost to show that it didn't really matter what he was singing - that he could sing anything in this bizarre arrangement.

I was psyched when Todd Mohr of Big Head Todd joined Tea Leaf Green on stage, and blues-ed out Sister Sweetly, but most of the people there didn't seem to know who he was. I regaled the guys I was with with the story of the time I saw BHTM in Boston circa 1995, where they did an acoustic version of Peace Train that still remains one of the best live songs I've ever seen.

Between performances, the Jammy awards were given out, and the host started out early in hinting that there would be some very special guests and a magical reunion, which had the crowd buzzing and drooling over Phish hopes. Lyricist Tom Marshall spoke, and got an appreciative ovation from the fans. When Fishman appeared to give an award and talk about his late mother's foundation, people would turn to each other and hold up 1 finger. After Page appeared onstage, jamming with some jazz legends, murmurs grew and people held up 2 fingers. Mark, who had invited me to the show, returned from the bathroom mumbling excitedly about how he'd just bumped into bassist Mike Gordon in the hallway, and jammed three fingers in my face, ranting excitedly. "Duuuuude - that's THREE of them..."

Galactic came out and whipped the crowd into a jammy dance frenzy when they were joined by Chali2na from Jurassic 5, who has silky smooth rap skills - like a Barry White meets a lisp-free B.I.G. When Doug E. Fresh, the Human Beatbox joined the cast on stage to duel with drummer Stanton Moore in a call and response beatbox-drums exchange, I was giddy. Fresh is a true MC - and even though everyone was joking "I bet Fresh has never seen so many white people at one time," his MC skills transcended the fact that crusty jammy audience is probably different from the typical hip hop crowd. "Laddy dahhhdy - we likes to pahtay - we don't cause trouble, we don't bother nobody!" I excitedly texted Big Show and Dirty Dave "I am watching DOUG E FRESH live on stage right now!"

After another award, the Fab Faux - a Beatles tribute band, came out with Joan Osbourne, who wailed through Come Together. They start "While My Guitar Gently Weeps," and Mark starts jabbing me excitedly, as we are looking through to the side of the stage, where Trey is easily visible. "FOUR duuuude! Trey is here! They are all here!" Yes - Trey is here, and more importantly, he has a a guitar strapped to his back!

When Trey walked out in the middle of the song, he got one of the most insane reactions I've ever seen in a live show - the crowd went absolutely bonkers. It was like seeing the Pope at the Vatican: Trey in front of his minions, back from the abyss. Trey made his O-face and wailed on the guitar, as they then shredded through "Everybody's Got Something to Hide (except for me and my monkey!)"

Phish then accepted the Lifetime Achievement Award, with all four band members together on stage. I texted Pauly, "Full band. Mania." As the crowd was in a full frenzy, but the band then just walked off the stage, as the Headcount Allstars (Joe Russo, Kyle Hollingsworth, Jake Cinninger, Marc Brownstein, Jon Gutwillig,) a mix of the cream of the crop of members from various bands, came onstage.

When the Allstars pounded the first base twangs of Phish's Wilson - the audience again exploded, and had high hopes for Phish joining them on stage to show them the proper way, but alas, still no Phish. I was about to pee my pants, but I couldn't risk heading to the bathroom and missing Phish's inevitable entry. When the Allstars segued into 2001, I made a mad dash, and returned in plenty of time for them to crush "Run Like an Antelope." I could see a sound manager on the side of the stage giving them the finger across the throat signal for "no more - that's it," but Joe Russo on drums hit the opening percussive cymbals for Maze, and I turned to Mark and guessed "David Bowie?" As that song has a similar opening construction. The kid in front of me scornfully turned around and chided, "NO. it's MAZE," like I was retarded. DYKWTFIA?!?!?!

Maze is no joke - and the Allstars really showed how talented they are by playing the song about as well as Phish could have. After a full 10 minute jammed out Maze, the song ended, and the lights came on abruptly. No Phish.

I'm pretty surprised that Phish came to this show and didn't play - I'd love to hear the reason why, if anyone sees any press on this in the coming days - I'm sure they'll say something.

Anyways, the Jammys was a phenomenal experience - a chance to see musical collaborations from legends and legends in the making, and to see some real top notch musicianship displayed and celebrated.

Pride

I'm pleased to announce that when you search for "slutty rockstars" on Google, Kid Dynamite's World is the number one result! I'm also #3 for "deadlift blowout o-ring," and #2 for a Yahoo search on the immortal Jorge Poo Tang.
If you've been living under a rock, you're probably unaware that Harrah's made some major corporate whorishness changes to this years WSOP main event, which will result in the final table of the $10k NLHE World Championship being played in NOVEMBER, almost 4 months after the start of the tournament. Now, if you want, you can read through hundreds of posts in this 2+2 thread, or read Otis's more succinct summary of why he doesn't like the idea. The bottom line is that the main "pro" for this retarded idea is that it will hopefully get more people interested in poker.
The contra argument to that claim is that everyone who wants to play poker is already watching and playing poker, and that if Harrahs really wants to increase the poker playing population, they should use their corporate clout to lobby Washington to of repeal the ridiculous Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act. If Joe-Bob Doucheball in Kansas City were able to log on at night and dump a few buy-ins playing 2-4NLHE on Party Poker it would get him a whole lot more interested in the game than watching Norman Chad and Lon McEachern give verbal reach-arounds to Phil Ivey and Allen Cunningham on ESPN.
edit: I almost forgot - I had an epiphany this morning as I lay in bed - if they want ratings for the WSOP Main Event on TV, fuck postponing it... they should get rid of the chips and use cash! Big million dollar cubes of cash - the players would hurl them back and forth at each other. Each contestant could have a little forklift beside him stacked with cash cubes, which he would make a show of heaving onto the table to bet. Retarded you say? Hey - don't put anything past the corporate whores at Harrahs and ESPN.
Anyway. I always applaud consumers exercising their rights to choose NOT to to business with certain companies, but I have to laugh at all the people who read the new Harrah's policy and said "Fuck it - I'm not playing in the Main Event because of this."

Gatorade Tiger?

I can't be the only one who doesn't understand Gatorade Tiger can I? Seriously? Regular Gatorade didn't have enough electrolytes for Tiger - he needed his own personal blend with 25% MORE electrolytes?!?!?! He's a fucking GOLFER! The entire ad campaign reads like an extended April Fools joke, let's look at the taglines for the different flavors (taken directly off Gatorade's website):
RED DRIVE: "What kind of color is red? Red is a warning. A declaration. A color that says I'm ready to do what it takes. Red is focused and driven because red doesn't like second place. So what kind of color is red? His kind."
really? seriously? But wait - check out Cool Fusion!
COOL FUSION: "One part body. One part mind. All parts cool. That's what it takes to come through in the clutch with millions watching. It's what makes Tiger, Tiger."
Come on - this can't be serious can it? Don't forget Quiet Storm!
QUIET STORM: "His focus is legendary. Underneath a storm of pressure, he ignores doubt and pays no attention to failure. That's because he can see only one thing. The win. It's why he's not just an athlete, he's Tiger."
If you couldn't figure it out, Red Drive is fruit punch, Cool Fusion is lemon-lime, and Quiet Storm is grape.
I was trying to think of a list of athletes who might need "25% more electrolytes" even LESS than Tiger Woods does, and I came up with a few:
David "Big Papi" Ortiz, Baseball, Designated Hitter - sits on the bench for most of the game, coming out of the dugout once every 45 minutes to swing the bat a few times and run 360 feet if he's lucky. Papi would guzzle Red Fusion.
Johnny "The Scorpion" Archer, Pool Player, 9-ball legend - He'd clearly be a Quiet Storm drinker.
Bob Learn Jr, Professional Bowler - Bob doesn't even have his own Wikipedia page, so it's not clear if he actually exists, but rumor has it he was a 4 time PBA champion as of Oct 17th, 2000. Learn would obviously live on Cool Fusion.
Look, it's not that Tiger is not a phenomenal talent - it's just that when I think "Tiger Woods" and "golf" I NEVER think "Man, I bet regular Gatorade isn't meeting Tiger's rehydration needs - they better come up with a new product for him with MORE electrolytes to meet the rigorous physical demands of a round of 18 holes."
Is it possible Tiger's blatant sellout with this ridiculous product angered the Golf Spirits? Shortly after Gatorade Tiger launched, Tiger's 7 tourney win streak came to an end at the CA Championship, and he then finished a horrendous second at the Masters, AND had knee surgery!!! It's almost like he put the Madden Curse on himself!
In other golf news, Friend of Kid Dynamite Erik Norton needs your help. Erik is a finalist out of 56,000 entries in the Golf Digest "What Would You Shoot?" US Open contest - the winner of the contest, determined by your votes, gets to play a round at the US Open in a foursome with Tony Romo, Matt Lauer and Justin Timberlake. Norton hopes to be Bringin' Sexy Back, but needs your help - you can vote once a day, it's easy to register and Golf Digest doesn't send you any unsolicited emails.

Vegas Leap Year 2008: Part III: The Abyss

I'm sure you've already read Part I and Part II.
Saturday I woke up rested but still reeling from the beating I'd taken at the 5-10NL table the day before. I focused on the positive: that I'd gone 3 for 3 with my advanced "handicap by name" horse picking technique, where I hit on Friday with 1) Kennan's Josh, 2) Big Pooch and 3) Tug River Princess. Big Show and I stopped by the sports book, where I picked up 10 different racing forms to scour for good horse names as we strolled over to Chipotle to fuel up.
I perused the forms as I pounded a chicken fajita burrito, and knew I'd found a grand slam with Bologna Lips in the 4th race @ Meadowlands. I also bet "Juiced" in honor of the Clemens debacle, and some other horses with names so stupid I can't even remember. Shockingly, the momentum failed, and I went 0 for Saturday on my horse picks. Fahhhhk!
We decided to dominate the Venetian $500 Saturday NLHE tourney, even though I've been focusing on cash games lately. I stepped up the aggression early on, and quickly had my table trained to recognize that Kid Dynamite was not to be fucked with. One donkey to my left commented out loud about how relentless I was and how he didn't want to see me at the final table. I mentioned that I didn't think he'd have to worry about that, and that he was indeed correct - he did NOT want to see me at the final table or at any other table he was at, as I smiled politely. This guy ordered a hot tea with honey and lemon - aka - The Dirty Dave - which nearly caused me to jump out of my chair. He then bought me a complimentary hot chocolate, after I told him they were top notch at the Venetian. After half the field got eliminated, I was moved to Big Show's table, where he gave me the rundown on the donkeys there, including a tricky guy in seat one who thought he was the shit.
I took one look at Mr. Smooth and looked at Big Show, announcing from across the table, "I've played with him before," as I looked at the guy and smiled. He was the Mirage Bully from my January 2005 Winter Assault trip report - and I remembered the hand I'd stacked him on more than 3 years ago. I looked at the guy and nodded. He smiled back. "I've played with you before," I explained... "Mirage. You used to be a dealer right?"
"I deal at the Wynn," he told me.
"You used to deal at the Rio, right?"
"YES! A LONG time ago," the guy was pretty surprised that I'd thrown this info at him.
"I remember the hand I stacked you on - I had a set of deuces and you turned Q-5 into two pair," I recited. I remembered the hand well. I was not surprised that he could not recall the hand.
Now, when I explained this table talk to the resident pro in my local game, he questioned why I'd want to put it out there that I had that kind of recall and attention to detail. The answer was simple - in a tourney where the blinds and antes are high and I want all the respect and steal equity I can get, I want my opponents to know one thing: DYKWTFIA!??!?! (in case you're knew to Kid Dynamite's world, that's DO YOU KNOW WHO THE FUCK I AM?!?!!?)
Mr. Smooth nodded with respect and I knew I wouldn't have to worry about him trying to take advantage of me. When he reraised my open raise with 8-8, I laid it down and was shown JJ. Four hours into the tourney, with half the field gone, I couldn't avoid busting out against him though, when my stack dwindled and I open raised with A-8 suited in late position, only to run into his pocket tens, and, priced in, called off the rest of my chips. His hand held up, and I retreated to the Venetian pool deck to recap the weekend action via phone call with Dirty Dave as I reclined on a chaise lounge in the setting sun. After calling US Airways to successfully upgrade my return flight to first class, I was in a better mood, and dialed up Dirty Dave.
Dave commiserated my NLHE cold decks from Friday, and admired the advanced blackjack tilt plays Big Show and I employed. He got me pumped up to make another casino pit assault that evening, which commenced soon thereafter when Big Show busted out 30 minutes later. Big Show joined me poolside, but we quickly got kicked out of the pool for being too jacked and tan - I don't know how they could tell through my Columbia full zip pullover - maybe it was just that the pool was closing.
Now - I promised my most loyal reader Bones that this trip report would not contain any pee or poop references, but Big Show had the funniest line of the trip in the Venetian bathroom. We were taking care of business at the urinals, with a little Asian guy at the pisser between us, when Big Show looked in my direction and asked "How desperate are you?"
Hmmm... Tough question - I'd been lamenting on my beats at the poker table, but when this question is posed in the bathroom by the Big Show as he's looking at me over the head of a little Asian dude, the implications can be dire. I tried not to laugh, pursed my lips, and asked, "Do I even DARE ask why?"
"There's a $1 chip in the pisser," Big Show explained, as we burst out laughing.
"If it were a yellow chip ($1k) I'd go after it bobbing-for-apples style," I retorted, which prompted the discussion of how big the chip would have to be for you to fish it out of the pisser. Big Show said he'd go after a redbird ($5)... No no, I'm kidding... It's important to consider that the Venetian does NOT have the antisplash.com blue AstroTurf in the urinals - the chip is floating by the piss-mint. We left it for a future patron, but I'd bet my bankroll it didn't last 90 minutes in there. There is ALWAYS someone desperate enough in Vegas.
Since it was a new month, March 1st, I had another $25 match play which I wanted to slam on the Pai Gow table. There was a guy who was banking every other hand, as per the rules at the Venetian, and this caused all sorts of controversy with the match play. In Pai Gow, you can BANK the game, which means you cover all the bets on the table, and the players play against YOUR hand instead of the dealer's hand. They told me I couldn't use the match play card when this guy was banking, since he couldn't be made to pay it off. I politely explained that this was absolutely absurd, and they should call their supervisor, as the guy could still bank, and the Venetian would just have to cover this $25 if I won. This nearly caused an international incident with the 20 Asian pit personnel in the pit, who conferred and concluded that the match play could NOT be used when the guy was banking - which I'm POSITIVE cannot be correct.
The thing with Pai Gow is that there are so many ties, so I had to keep taking this thing down every time the doucheball in the one seat banked. This guy was a professional Pai Gow player - at least he thought he was, and I started calling him Monopoly Man out loud, as he had a shiny bald head and a bushy moustache. Big Show set the over/under on MM's net worth at $400k, and I instantly took the under. I begged the Big Show to let me pull out two dimes and bust this guy, which of course would have made the Big Show's weekend, but I pussed out and steamed every time I pulled back the match play card and won - at least I was putting beats on Monopoly Man. Eventually, I managed to win the math play freeroll, which prompted a joint "I DRINK YOUR MILKSHAKE!" from the Big Show and Kid Dynamite.
I was SEVERELY tilted when we went for a walk through the high limit salon which is adjacent to the pit we were playing in, and I had barely taken two steps before a female Asian pit boss materialized in front of me and actually put her hand on my chest, stopping me and asking me for ID! Now, one of the great things about casinos is that they never know who has money and who doesn't, which is why they are usually not rude to people like this, and in this case, the pit boss clearly did not know who the fuck I was. I handed her my ID, and after 10 seconds snatched it back out of her hand. "I'm not done!" she hissed at me, and I explained that I was a guest of the casino with a line of credit, I was 31 years old, and she better FUCK OFF promptly, only not in those exact words. I retrieved my ID, and peed all over the floor in the high limit private bathroom (I kid I kid - I live by the Golden Rule: if you wouldn't want someone else to pee on the floor, don't pee on the floor yourself, even if the pit boss is a b-yatch).
Big Show and I went in search of food, and ended up at Emeril's Table 10 in the Palazzo, where we sat at the bar and had a few appetizers each. The food was decent, and primed us to continue our assault on the double deck blackjack game outside the high limit salon at the Palazzo. We were again comped cigars, and I put the waitress on mega-tilt by asking her for a glass of port. "I don't know if we have that," she wined, but I told her to run along and ask the bartender, and she returned promptly with a suitable result. Even the pit boss was tilted, raising an eyebrow and asking "What are you drinking?"
"Port," I replied matter-of-factly, before rolling over a blackjack, standing up, and bellowing "and I DRINK YOUR MILKSHAKE!" Big Show convulsed with laughter as he tried not to throw up. I'm not afraid to admit that I engage in blackjack racial profiling. I don't like to play with people other than Big Show to start with, and if a doucheball who clearly doesn't know how to play comes to my table and fucks up my mojo with suboptimal play, I'm SUPER easily tilted. So I took proactive measures when a likely candidate strolled up, and told Big Show we were leaving immediately. We walked into the Salon, and quickly convinced the pit boss to cut the limit on the baccarat table from $200 to $100 so we could break our baccarat cherry, and do what we've been wanting to do for the past several trips: rip up a whole shoe of cards at the baccarat table!
It was not at all hard to tell that we'd never played baccarat before, and our antics thoroughly entertained the pit boss and dealer. The great thing about baccarat is that no matter how big a donkey you are, the house edge is the same: there are no strategy decisions, only a decision on who to bet on: Player or Bank. Whomever has the highest bet on each side gets to turn over that side's respective cards, which caused Big Show and I to bet against each other sometimes, just so we could taunt each other, and BOTH rip up the cards.
The other great thing about baccarat is that the players DEVOUTLY chart the results on a little piece of wide graph paper they give you. Like it fucking matters. My chart was a world class piece of work, which included stock trend graphs, haiku, smiley faces, "I DRINK YOUR MILKSHAKE" written all over it, and a phenomenal array of gibberish written in both red and black ink - my biggest regret of the weekend is not saving it. Before each bet, Big Show would inquire "what does the chart say?" "Player - definitely," I'd tell him, and we'd get down on the player, and alternate who got to rip up the cards.
Suddenly, a South American cartel guy sat down at our table in the two seat, with a guy who looked just like Turtle from Entourage, his buddy, in the one seat. It turned out they were Mexican, but I'll call him Escobar anyway. I was in the four seat, which of course isn't numbered "4" because four is an unlucky number in Asia - my seat is numbered "5"... Anyway - Turtle and Escobar were a strange mix, since Escobar looked to be about 55, and Mexi-Turtle was around 28. Big Show muttered to me "this could change our dynamic a bit," and he was right, as Escobar's $500-$1000 bets quickly sized us, and meant we suddenly no longer got to rip up the cards unless we dared to bet against him! We loved Escobar's panache though, as he'd ask the dealer to turn over the cards: "Show me one card," then pause, consider it, breathe deeply, "And the other," while we had just had the dealer flip over the hand that we'd be going up against.
After dropping $5k in cash on the table, losing it, and losing another $6k in cash, Escobar pulled out another $5k and laid it on the table. At this point, the pit boss - in baccarat it seems there is always a pit boss standing over the table - steps in and says "Sir, I need more identification before I can complete this transaction." Wow. Talk about doing your job - the insinuation was immediately clear to me, having worked on Wall Street and having had to undergo training in regulations related to money laundering: this guy looked like a cartel member, and he wasn't putting any more cash on the table without them running his passport. It didn't matter that Escobar had been walked over to the table by a Palazzo host - the host had failed on his promise to deliver Escobar's player's card, and this pit boss had seen enough and wanted more ID. The game came to a halt, as we sat silently while Mexi-Turtle tried to negotiate and explain that the passport was in their room at Caesar's. Escobar encouraged us to play on without him, and finally got his visa issues straightened out, before dropping another buy-in and leaving.
Somehow during all this, I found myself stuck $2k, and gave the pit boss the signal that I needed another $2k marker. Although I'm really not a big gambler, I found myself betting $500 a hand in baccarat - a game in which I certainly had no edge and had never even played before. This was not normal behavior for me! I was supremely tilted, and felted again, as I signaled the pit boss for another 2 dimes. Fuck it - if you're going down, go down in FLAMES - I was staring into the abyss.
Down a full $5k, I consulted my chart as Big Show went to the bathroom, probably to avoid watching the Kid Dynamite Trainwreck. I pressed my bets from $500 to $700 to $1100, winning five hands in a row, and almost instantly erasing my debt. Suddenly, the fucking pipe smoker - and I don't mean this guy chugged cock - he was ACTUALLY smoking a pipe, bumps his bet to $800 to cover my $700 bet, and before I even know what happened, the dealer has shipped him the cards. This is after I had won 5 hands in a row! You don't need to have a PhD in Baccarat Etiquette to know THIS IS NOT SOMETHING YOU FUCKING DO! I was somewhat surprised that the dealer hadn't even given me the heads up - not so much as a glance to see if I wanted to get into a bigger dick contest with the PipeSmoker and up my bet to keep control of the cards and the streak. Of course, we lost the hand, and I steamed about as hard as I ever have in a casino, as I eyed the guy and tried to give him a mental vibe that he'd just fucked up in a way that was not even possible to describe, and I wanted to fight him to the death. He didn't receive my telepathy, so I took the $2500 I had in front of me, and walked out of the baccarat pit down $3500, dragging Big Show to the $200 double deck table right outside the salon.
We absolutely SLAMMED the double deck game - where I made back the $3500 in less than THREE shoes! I won hand after hand, pressed my bets, doubled down and won - and was suddenly even. Having stared into the abyss and come out alive, I told Big Show: "I'm done for the night. I just want OUT of this. I want to buy back my markers and be even with the Palazzo." Big Show appreciated the sentiment, called me a pussy, and continued to battle solo at the table, while I walked back to the Salon.
I approached the pit and handed a different pit boss there my card, asking him if my markers had been sent to the cage yet. He retrieved the pit boss who'd presided over my game, and whispered in his ear that I wanted to buy back my markers. The pit boss who'd written my markers immediately had a look of disbelief on his face; shocked that I had managed to get out of the hole, and not realizing I was standing there. I tossed him two chips: a $5k chocolate and a $1k banana, and he retrieved my markers, which I promptly shredded and threw in the toilet, once again having escaped the clutches of the Palazzo.
After wandering back and forth between the Palazzo and Venetian for about an hour, I bailed on the night, and headed to bed before 3am on Saturday - and new record pussy performance for a Vegas Veteran. The near-death baccarat experience had taken its toll on me, and I needed rest before our final assault on Sunday morning.
Sunday:
We woke up and hit Chipotle again - Big Show couldn't handle it and went with pizza instead. After lunch, we walked south on the strip, marvelling at the mass of development underway. It's shocking to stand there by the City Center project and realize how far behind the ball those guys are - they are about 5 years too late.
Before heading to the airport, we had a few hours to hammer the Palazzo double deck blackjack game, but we couldn't avoid the ceaseless flow of ignorant doucheballs. Dirty Dave explained to me later that this was the Sunday through Wednesday convention crowd. At one point, we even asked the pit boss to RAISE our table minimum in an attempt to keep out doucheballs, but even this failed to deter them, and I went and steamed off $800 at the Pai Gow table before Big Show and I shared a cab to the airport.
The first class treatment soothed me - yes, thank you, I WOULD like a warm cookie, which I would be happy to eat with a fork and knife - and I dozed intermittantly on my trip home, pondering the next trip to the Desert.
until next time,
KD
